Student Life
On Wednesday May 18th the entire middle grades at SBCS traveled to Harpers Ferry, WV. Students traveled in their crews exploring the river bank on a river walk while learning about the healthy state of the watershed. The information they learned was used to contrast what they know about the poor health of Gywnn's Falls watershed. Several groups took nature hikes, while others drew natural setting drawings while learning about perspective.
John Brown was the lens into our learning about the Civil War. Students found new and interesting information about him everywhere they went while at Harpers Ferry. Several groups toured all of Harpers Ferry to complete the scavenger hunt of important information developed by the middle grades teachers own trip earlier in the year in preparation for this big day of fieldwork!
The students will use what they know to help them participate in a successful Socratic seminar in humanities and create advocacy based products in science around the current state of our own watershed.
The trip was an amazing experience for students and staff!! We can't wait to go back in the future! Onward and upward.
