Melanie Maisey (Ms. Melanie)

Melanie Maisey (Miss Melanie) has been with SBCS since our first year in 2005. She has taught in a variety of settings for over 18 years including infant and early childhood care all the way through teaching English to adults in community college. She earned her BA in Visual and Performing Arts from UMBC in 1992, then followed with a master's level education program at Antioch New England Graduate School from 1996-1998. She is currently enrolled in Loyola University's M.Ed. program to earn both an M.Ed, and an advanced teaching certificate as a reading specialist. Her background is in classical education, alternative learning approaches and Waldorf Education methodology; she is always happy when presented with variety!   She is an avid rock-climber, loves the flying trapeze, skiing, reading, and anything involving either the ocean or the mountains. Miss Melanie is a single mother to three children, Benjamin (10) in 4th grade, Lucian (7) in 1st grade, and Tori (21) who lives in NYC.

Lena Woods (Ms. Lena)

Lena Woods (Ms. Lena) has been with SBCS since January 2006. She received her bachelor's in Early Childhood Development and Education/K to 6 at University of Delaware. She also has a Masters in Special Education from Wilmington University, DE and a Master's of Literacy Education and Reading from Loyola University, MD.

Ms. Lena has a new baby girl, two cats, a dog, enjoys reading, and loves cooking and gardening.

Jamila Hale (Ms. MiMi)

MiMi Hale (Ms. MiMi) is in her fourth year here at Southwest Baltimore Charter School. In her first year here she held the position of being a one-on-one aide to one of our students. The following year she became a Non-Instructional Paraprofessional on the kindergarten team. In her third year, she became an Instructional Paraeducator. She was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland where she graduated from Carver Vocational-Technical High School.

She is happily married with 3 children. She has a wonderful dog name Roxy. Her favorite things in life are watching children grow academically and socially, writing poetry, singing, spending time with her family, and being a good friend. She enjoys being part of a wonderful staff here at Southwest. Her goal for this year is to continue to build relationships with students, families, and staff. Ms. MiMi knows that this year will be a great one and looks forward to each and every part of it!
