A sample of current partners includes:
University of Maryland CURE Program: Open to students in middle school, this rigorous STEM program provides after school and weekend science activities and ongoing mentorship. The program, funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH), operates in only three Baltimore City schools.
Middle Grades Partnership: Middle grades students from SBCS come together with students from the independent school, Gilman, for year round programming. The summer portion of this partnership is a six week long summer camp on the Gilman campus.
My Fathers Plan: My Fathers Plan is a non-profit organization dedicated to cultivating change for inner city youth through community activism, financial literacy, and community outreach. They teach youth of all ages skills that will spark personal growth and ultimately enhance their community.
Johns Hopkins Tutoring: Students are bused to the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) campus two times per week to receive tutoring in math and literacy from JHU students.
Soccer Shots: This six-week program is open to all students in grades K-3. It is a fee-based program.
Baltimore Inspiring Connections Outdoors (BICO): Students from all grades are invited to join this club. Participants enjoy a variety of exclusions that include camping, hiking, biking and canoeing.
Expeditionary Learning (EL) schools inspire the motivation to learn, engage teachers and students in new levels of focus and effort, and transform schools into places where students and adults become leaders of their own learning. EL provides a rigorous academic model that challenges students - even those starting with low skill levels - with high level tasks and active roles in the classroom. SBCS is considered among the highest performing EL schools in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Maryland Alliance of Public Charter Schools (MCSN) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, statewide organization whose mission is to promote and serve the Maryland Charter School movement. SBCS participates in MCSN as one of our state's oldest charter schools.
Parks and People Foundation is dedicated to supporting a wide range of recreational and educational opportunities; creating and sustaining beautiful and lively parks; and promoting a healthy environment for Baltimore. Our gardening activities and the "tree-scape" along the front of our campus were all part of the SBCS partnership with Parks and People. Additionally, we participate in their middle grades sports leagues; SBCS has been the Parks and People middle grades lacrosse champion for the past two years.
