8th graders enjoyed nature and celebrated the completion of middle school at Sandy Point.
Sixth grade students spent a week at NorthBay, stepping outside of their comfort zones and deepening their crew bonds.
On Friday, April 26th and May 10th the BICO Club went bicycle riding in Carroll Park. On these outings participants learned how to properly size and adjust the fit of a helmet. In addition, the group practiced how to check a bike before you ride:
A - Check the air in both tires
B - Check the brakes
C - Check the Chain
The BICO Club went camping at Patapsco Valley State Park on May 17th. Sixteen youth and four adults spent over 20 hours straight out in nature! Everyone gained experience around how to pitch a tent to stay dry and clean. Also, participants deepened their understanding of how to start a campfire and make the perfect s’more – depending on personal preferences.
One of our newest Trail Guides, Aria, is enjoying a special lunch with the staff member of her choice, Ms. Linay. Aria was chosen to be a Trail Guide based on the Habit of Scholarship of Perseverance. Congratulations Aria!
Our CURE scholars successfully presented their research to the community at the CURE Stem Expo.
The BICO Club went to the Piedmont Nature Center in Gywnn Oak on April 27th. This facility has a lot to offer including the chance to learn and get really close to honey bees. Students were able to put on beekeeper suits and get within a few inches of an active hive containing over 30,000 bees!
